Really Cool Jeepster
OK, so this Jeepster is cold, not just cool. Hailing from Bigfork, Montana, this '68 C-101 Commando yearns for warm beaches and bikinis. However, Joe Blair put a half hardtop on it and decided that was as warm as he liked it. With 5-inch custom Alcan springs and a front shackle reversal, this Jeepster handles the road well. The engine is still the 225ci V-6 with a T-18 backing it and handing off power to a Dana 20 transfer case. The axles are stock, but the Alcans allow 33x13.50R15 Toyo Open Country MTs to be run on the 15x11 Ultra Rims.
Cherokee Sport Truck
This is the very fine end result if you take an '88 MJ and an '01 XJ and cross the two. Ron Farrell of Paragould, Arkansas, did just that. With a plasma cutter, he cut much of the firewall and floor out of the MJ and proceeded to swap in all the Cherokee pieces he had. The MJ now has air, keyless entry, power windows, cruise control, airbags-basically, everything a loaded XJ has. Then he lifted it with a 6 1/2-inch lift, slung 33x12.50R15 Pro Comp Mud Terrain tires under it, welded the rear, and took it wheeling.
Not a Veggie-Eating-Burger Pansy
Before he told us about his Jeep, a '75 CJ-5, Wes Carter said, "Don't let the too-politically correct, veggie-burger-eating pansies of the community get you down." Wes hails from Cheboygan, Michigan, and has a largely stock Jeep that he wheels instead of wrenches on. The AMC 304 got fenderwell headers and a Pertronix Ignitor ignition with an Edelbrock Performer intake and carb, while the only other changes he made were adding a 2-inch-lift leaf spring with 1-inch-lift shackles to clear the 33x12.50R15 BFG MTs on chrome steel rims.
Sandy Seven
With a swapped-in AMC 360 V-8 topped by an Edelbrock intake, 4bbl carburetor, Hooker Headers, and an MSD ignition, we just know that John S. Ranney of Jacksonville, Florida, wasn't stuck here posing for a picture. This '79 CJ-7 packs a T176 four-speed transmission, Dana 300 transfer case, and clears the 33x12.50R15 Pro Comp Mud Terrains with a 4-inch Pro Comp suspension lift. The front Dana 30 has a Richmond Powertrax, while the rear AMC 20 was treated to an Auburn and one-piece axles. We know he wasn't stuck.
The Friendly WJ
From Casper, Wyoming, comes this '04 Grand Cherokee. Scott Mayes added 4 1/2-inch lift with front JKS adjustable control arms and track bar. Out back it got TeraFlex adjustable control arms and a Tom Wood's driveshaft. Pro Comp MX6 adjustable shocks control the rebound on all four corners. The 4.11 gears help spin 265/75R16 BFG Mud Terrain tires with a front Detroit Truetrac and rear OX locker keeping the power to the ground.
Built Overseas
This '94 YJ was built while its owner, Terry L. Rhoads, from Emporia, Kansas, was overseas with our military. He kept tabs on it through e-mails and phone calls whenever he could get to them and came back to a Wrangler that was sprung-over on stock leaf packs controlled by Bilstein 5100 shocks. The engine, automatic transmission, and transfer case were left stock, with the exception of a Rubicon Express slip-yoke eliminator. The front axle got Warn inner and outer shafts with 760-size OX joints, while a rear Ford 8.8 was swapped in with a Detroit Locker.
